Peatland restoration is underway at Blawhorn National Nature Reserve, as part of the EcoCo LIFE project. Scottish Natural Heritage is carrying out extensive restoration on this important peatland site, addressing historical drainage impacts to improve the condition of the habitats. New, innovative techniques are being used to restore the site using specialised contractors.
EcoCoLife project partners played host to a recent EC mission on the 7-8 October. The mission comprising; Laszlo Becsy, Lynne Barratt, and Tommy Sejersen were hosted by Yvonne Boles of RSPB at Kinneil Lagoons and by Paul Kirkland of Butterfly Conservation at Wester Moss. Both sites are within the Inner Forth Landscape Initiative area.
Paul Sizeland was appointed as the EcoCoLife Project Manager, starting on the 15 December 2014. Paul has wide habitat and project management experience having been involved in SNIFFER and currently the Lothian and Fife Green Network Partnership Welcome Paul!
EcoCo's visit by the EU's project monitors on 26 and 27 November was deemed a success. Lynne Barratt of Astrale met project staff during both days and visited Kinneil Lagoons, Baronshaugh and Aird Moss - and she was duly impressed by the project and its potential.
